Lake Life in Reston, VA

Lake Life in Reston, VA

Reston has four man-made lakes - Lake Anne, Lake Thoreau, Lake Audubon, and Lake Newport. As far as fishing goes, Lake Audubon was found to be the best in 2019, based on Fish Population Survey. You can fish in any of the four lakes, though Lake Anne typically has the lowest population. Each lake has its own rules but Lake Newport fishing is for “catch and release” only.

Recreation on the lakes has grown significantly since the beginning of the 2020 Covid-19 Pandemic. Moored pontoon boats and deck boats have grown in popularity and Reston residents who do not live in the lakeside communities have also really enjoyed renting stand-up paddle boards, paddle boats, and single and tandem kayaks at Lake Anne. More and more neighbors have purchased their kayaks, inflatable paddle boards, and canoes that can be used on any of the lakes through public access points.

Living near a lake is calming, fun, and hard to find in Northern Virginia. Reston residents love walking and biking to and from the lakes and they create natural areas around which to congregate in beautiful weather.
